Discovering the Flavors of Vietnam at Càphê Den: A Taste of Queens' First Vietnamese Coffee Shop!

One of the many things I love about living in New York, is the exposure to new activities, restaurants, cultures, experiences, and coffee shops! I genuinely enjoy visiting the various shops around the city, and also love learning about the story, intention, and why behind the opening of a café. The connection is different when you hear the details behind the bravery of opening a business in New York, which can be both scary, and rewarding at the same time. Maybe it’s the creative within me, but knowing the inspiration behind why someone took a risk to fulfill their dreams is something I respect and admire. Being a coffee aficionado, I was too excited to come across a post on Instagram about a new Vietnamese coffee shop, located in Flushing, Queens! I have tried Vietnamese iced coffee at restaurants as a drink option, but have not been to a dedicated coffee shop, where the drinks would be the main attraction. I can confidently say that my expectations were exceedingly met in all areas! I experienced great service, amazing quality coffee, and so much more during my wonderful visit at Càphê Den!

Although Càphê Den was a cafe on my list to visit, it was such an unexpected surprise on the day I went. My sister had a doctor’s appointment near the Flushing area, and while waiting I decided to make great use of my time, and see what coffee shops were nearby. I quickly remembered that I saved Càphê Den as a spot I wanted to try, and noticed that it was only 8 minutes from where I was! I didn’t have to think too long to immediately add the address to my GPS and was on the way! Upon entering the location, I noticed the signage outside with these beautiful iced coffee options and flavors. I had no idea what I wanted to try, but from the look of the photos, I knew that whatever I decided upon, it was going to be delicious! I decided to start with the Sea Salt Cream coffee, and was very impressed the bold flavors. The space was beautiful and serene, the service was top tier, and the coffeeeeeee???!!!! AMAZING! I wanted to capture my experience and took a couple of photos, and video footage for the blog ,as well as my lifestyle page, (ExquisitelyErica.) While enjoying the space and satisfyingly sipping, I noticed something else brewing…

As I’m enjoying the Sea Salt Cream coffee, I noticed that The Fung Brothers were also visiting the space, and interviewing the owners Michelle, Erika, and Christine. They were all so down to earth, high energy, and supportive of the business! It was really cool to see them in action. I had the opportunity to hear some of the backstory of the business, and while they were recording the content, an idea came to my mind. “You should interview them as well.” Without even second guessing myself, I walked up and asked if I could also interview them about the opening of their new coffee shop, and all of the ladies were so gracious and excitedly said yes! Their energy was infectious and while speaking to them, you can quickly see the passion behind why they decided to open up the first Vietnamese coffee shop in Queens!

Càphê Den, an Asian women-owned business, recently opened in February 2024, was inspired by two trips Michelle, Erika, and Christine took to California and Vietnam. Visiting the various shops located in California, and exploring egg cream in Vietnam, created a strong desire to bring back what they all enjoyed to the NY community. There is great attention to detail for every part of the business, and what I love is that the beans are sourced in Vietnam, which truly maintains the authentic taste in each sip. Even when deciding on the the name "Càphê Den," the ladies wanted to keep their Vietnamese roots close, by representing the shop in the native spelling. I was informed that their coffee undergoes a special process using a phin (a traditional coffee filter used to make Vietnamese coffee) that allows the coffee to slow drip which produces very rich, robust, and bold flavors. Upon the first sip, I was able to taste the difference in the quality of the brew. A drink that was surprisingly good, was the Coconut Matcha Cream! I would have never thought to add a cream base top with coconut water, but it works beautifully! If you love pastries, you will love to know that Erika bakes them fresh daily! I also loved learning that the design of the cups, tumblers, and drink carriers were inspired by the beautiful wallpaper within in the space. It was inspiring to see how dedicated the ladies of Càphê Den were to bring a taste of Vietnam to NY.

It was truly a great time getting to know the Michelle, Erika, Christine and the history behind Càphê Den. The additional plus for me was getting the opportunity to also enjoy authentic quality coffee! I wanted to also capture their team that provided phenomenal service and will be apart of their major growth! I have no doubt that this location will be a success, and won't be surprised to see more locations opening in the future. The service, passion, and energy from Michelle, Erika, and Christine was extremely genuine and warm, I can't wait to go back and "fuel my addiction!" Plan your visit to experience an authentic Vietnamese coffee experience! Whether you are located in the Queens area or not, visiting Càphê Den will feel like you took a first class flight to Vietnam after the first savory sip!
