Styling Tips: How to Rock the Iconic NY Yankee Fitted Cap in Brooklyn's Fashion Scene

photo of stylish streetwear

Being born and raised in New York, can you believe that I never owned a NY Fitted?! I feel like that is against the fashion NY law! Recently, while at TJ Maxx, I noticed a wide selection of the NY Yankee fitted caps for only $12.00! As soon as I picked one up, I decided to purchase the black cap and figured that a vision would come as to how I would style it, and as you can see, it did! I truly believe that building a wardrobe with options requires you to get what speaks to you first, and then figuring out how all of the pieces will work together afterwards. Most people will shop for an event when it is near, but it should be the opposite! What can be frustrating, is being ready to shop for an event, and not finding any pieces at all. Keep your wardrobe updated with a variety of pieces to always feel confident for your next outing, that is one of my fashion style tips! You can style a cap in many different ways, here is what inspired this classic look.

My siblings and I wanted to try a very popular garlic knot chicken sandwich from Knapp Street Pizza. The sandwich included breaded chicken, garlic knots as the roll, and pesto sauce topped with Mike's hot honey, like wow! My brother loves pizza and the weather was beautiful that day, so I figured, why not go out and look cute! I wanted to keep it street cute with a huge emphasis on the accessories. I started with the hat and decided that the cape blazer would be a stylish addition. Originally, I was preparing to wear a blouse, but decided that the look would be fitting with a plain white t-shirt. I love how accessories can transform an outfit, and decided that gold would really pop. From the belt, bracelets, necklace, and rings - everything worked really well together! You can NEVER go wrong with a red lip, it truly completes and elevate any look in any occasion! If you have a NY fitted, whatever color top and a blazer, you can easily recreate this look as well!

"Sometimes We Have To Get Dressed And Use Our City Streets As Our Runway"

I find that having something to look forward to, really ignites joy. We all go through really hard things in life, and fight through many things internally. Sometimes we have to get dressed and use our city streets as our runway. This outfit was not planned, the outing was not planned, and emotionally I was feeling blah, but the beauty of the day encouraged me to enjoy it fully in style, and I honestly felt good. I could have worn something really easy, but I thought to myself, "why wait?!," the time is now, the vision is there, just go. We stopped by the water view on Ocean Ave, talked, walked slow, grabbed some gelato, and enjoyed our time together. I was actually excited to take these pics, and this is part of what inspired me to start writing again. I want so much out of life, and get anxious when things don't happen as I thought, but being present and acknowledging joy at each moment has been really enhancing joy internally and externally. This is something you have to choose every day and be very intentional about. When you feel good and physically look good, you genuinely do feel amazing! Don't save the look boo, put it on, pose, and enjoy the moment! See below for outfit deets!
